Topic Ideas
- Topic 1: Limits to advertising (junk) food to adults and not just children. You constantly hear that children should be limited on how much unhealthy food they are consuming outside of their home but what about adults? Should adults have a limit on what they are consuming on a regular basis? What fast food chains have restrictions on certain food items? Should advertisers be blocked or limited on media outlets? Should there be a ban on food to prevent obesity among adults?
- Topic 2: Should social media be used against you? What regulations are in place allowing jobs to check your facebook etc and to determine whether they should hire you based on your postings. Does your social media site determine who you are as a person? Can social media be used against you in a court of law?
- Topic 3: The Cloud. Where does it all go and to what purpose? Do we really have privacy? Is our data being sold to advertisers?
Juliet, Topic 1 isn't really a mass media topic, unless you restrict it to advertising, e.g. what restrictions have advertisers placed on themselves around advertising to children, and should there be similar for adults? Topic 2 is a good research topic -- how far can employers go in investigating your social media use? Topic 3 is pretty broad, but it is a question most people are asking.
